Is 'BUSY' Your Go-to Word?

Annie Gibbins

My neighbour asked if her granddaughter could come around to my house, and meet my small 'farmyard' of beautiful pets. Within moments, she retracted this request and said, “So sorry Annie, I shouldn’t have asked, as I know what a busy woman you are!”

Instantly, I felt somewhat sad. I realised, it’s a sad day when you haven't the (perceived) time, of showing a small, excited child your pet’s. Whilst I am a motivated, tenacious and empowered woman, I am also a mother of five children, who continues to bask in their happiness and joy. So, joy in another person's life is paramount to me.

So what perception am I putting out there?

Am I making strategic choices, or filling my diary to it’s max? And I am guessing, the same rings true for you.

In our modern day world, technology has made the world move faster.

Everything can be instant; instant food, movies, music and even relationships.

But are we happy, or merely satisfied?

When someone asks you, “How are you feeling?”, how often do you reply with the word, "busy".

I hear it a lot; "I am busy at home, busy at work. busy with the kids, and busy unclogging my emails". However, ‘busy’ isn’t a feeling, and yet, it has become a status and a badge of honour for successful leaders. We are so insanely busy that we forget to evaluate, or strategise our next opportunities.

My reality is, I am not too busy to do my work, or coach, or mentor, or be a wife, mother and grandmother. But what are we forgetting in the process, when it comes to reaching our ultimate goals?

Are we forgetting friends, leisure time, sleep or even still-ness.

We all 24 hours in our day, so it's important how we choose to use that time.

Block out non-negotiables which are usually not monetary, but they can be magical moments in your diary.

We only have so many hours available, so make strategic choices with how you use them.

Are you physically busy or unavailable to be mindfully inspired? Where energy goes, success flows!

Avoid exhaustion and periodic meltdowns, and create some space for you. Literally, find a time where you do nothing. If we don’t create extra room in our lives, we are recycling our day-to-day wins, and blocking anything new from entering our lives.

Afterall, what’s the worst that can happen with a bit more space in our lives?

How are you going to use your time, unapologetically, in a way that suits who you are?

We might be a time scarce generation, but our heart is timeless.

Afterall, what’s the point of chasing dreams, if you are too busy to feel them?
